Destiny of Souls

Michael Newton was a counseling psychologist and hypnotherapist in Los Angeles, an atheist when he started, who says he stumbled into this by accident when a client under hypnosis went past a past life and started describing what happened between lives. He spent decades taking people there, and this is the second book of transcripts, seventy cases, following Journey of Souls. What his subjects describe is remarkably consistent, and that consistency is his whole argument: Soul groups you travel with life after life, guides assigned to you, a council that reviews how you did, a library of your own record, a choosing of the next body and the next parents before you go. He presents it as fieldwork, not doctrine, and lets the transcripts carry it. Whether hypnosis recovers memory or manufactures it is the question the book rests on, and Newton knows readers will land on both sides.
