A combination axe and grub hoe used in wildland firefighting — one side for chopping, the other for scraping. The essential tool of the fireline, designed to cut brush and dig down to mineral soil.
Etymology
Named for Edward Pulaski, a U.S. Forest Service ranger who saved most of his crew during the 1910 fires in Idaho.
